The Great Gatsby-11

As chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald rolls around, there is expected conflict between Tom and Gatsby because of Daisy. Gatsby's truth of his illegal encounters come out into the air and so do Tom's sexism and hypocrisy encounters. "'She's not leaving me!' Tom's words suddenly leaned down over Gatsby. 'Certainly not for a common swindler who'd have to steal the ring he put on her finger'"[Fitzgerald, 133]. He has no moral qualms about his own extramarital affairs, but when faced with his wife’s infidelity, he assumes the position of outraged victim. Both are liars and both are guilty of their wrong-doings. It is quite harsh and I have a feeling of compassion for Daisy because of the bad luck she has gotten with these two men. I have a feeling Daisy is going to stay with Tom because of his possessiveness towards Daisy.
